What would we do without the Art Center? As an editorial illustrator and artist myself, I’ve loved the Art Center for 20 years or more. It’s added so much to my life. The opportunities it offers for exploration are just amazing.

The Ann Arbor Art Center Presents
Potential! 2011
An Annual Exhibition of High School Student Art
March 16, 2011 - Ann Arbor, MI - The Ann Arbor Art Center’s annual high school student art exhibition, Potential!, will be on display in the Exhibitions Gallery from April 1 – May 8, 2011. Potential! is an all-media juried art exhibition that showcases and celebrates the talent of local teen artists in the visual arts. An opening reception and awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 2 from 3-5 PM. This event is free and open to the public.
High school students throughout Washtenaw County are invited to submit artwork in any medium. They are encouraged to consult with their school art teacher to select work that represents achievements in creativity. The juror for Potential! 2011 is Christopher Schneider, director of the Cranbrook Summer Art Institute, an internationally known program providing innovative art instruction to teenagers. A former high school teacher, Schneider earned an MFA in Photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art and teaches at three area colleges. His artwork has been in multiple exhibitions locally, nationally and as far away as Shanghai, China. He also directs Hatch, a non-profit artist collective that is currently working at converting a former police station into an art center in Hamtramck..
On April 16 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, Schneider will be holding a portfolio review for high school students and offering suggestions on how to prepare a portfolio for college submissions. He will also be giving a talk on what students need to do to pursue a career in art. Both are free but pre-registration is required and can be done on-line at www.annarborartcenter.org.
The Ann Arbor Art Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging the community in the education, exhibition and exploration of the visual arts. Offering studio art classes, workshops, exhibitions, summer camps and more, the Art Center is celebrating over 100 years of being the place where creativity and community meet.
