Ann Arbor Comics Arts Festival (A2CAF) Offering FREE Hands-On Workshops on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17 at the Ann Arbor Art Center
[hr]The Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival is a nonprofit organization dedicated to putting comics in the hands of kids and teens again, and opening up a world of imagination and creative exploration.
On Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17, A2CAF will be holding several FREE hands-on workshops on the 3rd floor of the Ann Arbor Art Center! Take advantage of a unique opportunity to meet real comic book artists and learn from the pros! All ages welcome and all materials will be provided!
Space is limited- all workshops are on a first-come, first serve basis. Details are listed below:

Quick Draw with Joshua Buchanan and Joe Foo | All Ages
Imagine an episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway? starring a group of quick-thinking cartoonists, and you’ll begin to get the picture of Quick Draw. It’s improvisational cartooning with plenty of audience participation, brought to you with courage and cheer by our guest artists.

Design a Branching Story Mini Quest, with Rob Stenzinger | Teens & Adults
If a player can choose any direction in your game, how do you write all of the possible paths? Join cartoonist, game designer, and teaching artist Rob Stenzinger in this awesome interactive game design workshop. In this session you will create your own interactive conversation (aka simple game quest with branching dialogue). We will use the free app “Twine” to make and connect mini conversations with game rules. Great for artists, coders, and non-coders.
Make a Mini-Comic, with Matt Feazell | Kids & Adults, Ages 5 and Up
Matt Feazell’s legendary mini-comics workshop is back! Learn how to make an 8-page book out of one sheet of paper AND the secrets to telling a comic book story to fill those pages in 60 minutes or less!

Description: Join Disney Infinity artist Brandon Dayton for an exploration of the basics of giving your comic that professional, finished look with line work. Learn how you can use line quality, contrast, and detail to make your black and white line drawings pop, then try your hand at doing it yourself!

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at animation but didn’t have access to the tools necessary to do that? Did you know that you can actually make pretty amazing animation by just using Photoshop?! Let me show you some easy steps to getting your hands dirty with animation, by just using Photoshop!
Art Heist! with Chris and Ginger Ludden | Teens & Adults
How do artists get their ideas? Sometimes they “steal” them! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to “steal” inspiration. Start with a famous comic character, and finish with an original creation!

How to Write Your Bestest! With Conor McCreery | Teens & Adults
Conor McCreery is a Harvey and Shuster Award-nominated writer best known for the creator owned series Kill Shakespeare. Join him for a fun and fast-paced journey through learning how to write stories. You’ll learn why originality ain’t all it’s cracked up to be, why every story HAS to involve a journey, the difference between the “inner” and “outer” stories, and how to use “Three Masks” to create your bestest characters yet! BONUS — we’ll make up our own story as a team (dinosaurs may be involved).
