Teens, take the wheel. In this class, students will explore all aspects of pottery including throwing on the wheel and basic sculpture techniques. Students will be given an introduction to the entire process, including forming, glazing, and firing. Each  session will include a demonstration of techniques during the first part of the class, while the remaining time will be for practice and individual instruction. This is an excellent class for beginning and returning students, as you can never have enough practice on the wheel!  The lab fee includes 25 pounds of stoneware clay and all firing, slips and glazes.  New students need to purchase a basic pottery tool kit. These kits are available for $20 at the first class. Open Studio Time is not included in Teen Courses.

Explore the world of the graphic novel in this innovative class for teens. Learn to create dynamic characters and invent a storyline as you develop sophisticated drawing skills. Dive into the challenge of  creating a visual story through composition, thumbnailing, penciling and inking. All materials are covered by the lab fee. Delve into the challenge for working from a clothed model and develop your skills of observation utilizing graphite pencil, charcoal and conte techniques. Learn the principles of contour, value, proportion, perspective and composition while developing your personal style.  This is a great class for developing a portfolio. All materials included.

6 Saturdays: April 13, 20, May 4, 11, 25, June 8 (no class 4/27, 5/18, or 6/1)

Get to know the fashion industry and the creative process of fashion design in this innovative class for teens.  Develop individual illustration styles by experimenting with a variety of drawing media and approaches.  Projects will introduce elements of design such as line, shape, color and texture coupled with brainstorming and inspiration tactics.  At the end of the class the student will review their work and put together a final portfolio. All materials are included in the lab fee. 

8 Sundays: April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19, June 2, 9 (no class 5/26)

The best artists, designers, and architects have a strong foundation in drawing and observation. In this four day workshop we will use historical and contemporary artists as an inspiration point to further our drawing skills and begin to develop our personal style. Students will have access to a variety of drawing medium including pencil, graphite, charcoal and conte. All materials are included.

Mon-Thurs, July 8-11

Explore styles of illustration from Doré to anime! Starting with a poem, story or quote we will investigate a variety of drawing and painting styles inspired by some of the greatest illustrators and graphic artists of all time. These techniques will broaden students’ horizons and help them find their own unique visual voice. This class is perfect for students with an interest in creative writing who want to translate their ideas into images. All materials included.

Have you ever wondered how good painters make a rose look so real you could pick it, or an apple so round and shiny you want to eat it? In this four day workshop we’ll learn to see and paint every nuance of color, light, shadow, reflection and form. This course will prepare you for mastering more complex subjects and will serve as an introduction to the luscious medium of oil paint. All materials included.
