3 Reasons to Check out the Rinse/Repeat Opening Party

Kick off your weekend with us next Friday, August 17 from 6PM-9PM! We sat down with Mike Wolf, our Gallery Coordinator, and he told us 3 things that are going to make the opening party for RINSE/REPEAT awesome.

RINSE/REPEAT ann arbor art center exhibition local marlee grace Frank teaches geometry redux floral mandala grand rapida haley hugerford 1. Live art installations on our first floor for one night only!

The first floor will feature the work of Hayley Hungerford and Kate Garman. During the opening party Hayley will be creating a large floral mandala on the gallery floor. She will be using flora from local vendors, and the artwork will only be on view for one night only, so make sure to come to the party!

Surrounding Hayley on the walls will be a series of large blankets created by Kate Garman, a textile artist based in Philadelphia, PA. Influenced from her experience as a carpet designer, her work explores ways to break down the grid by using repetitive symbols and marks referencing traditional textile techniques and patterns within the home.

This show features video, performance, laser etching and more traditional mediums like textiles and drawing. These artists are making work that explore their relationship to the various histories and traditions in artmaking while also reflecting on their relationship to the audience.

3. Social Media Played a Huge role

The show is informed in large part by the role of social media and how it influences artistic practice. Marlee Grace (the curator of RINSE/REPEAT) and I met in Grand Rapids, MI as members of an artist-run venue called the DAAC. We had both recently graduated from college around this time and the DAAC provided an invaluable resource for us to begin working through what it means to have a fulfilling creative practice outside of art school. Since our Grand Rapids days, I’ve followed Marlee’s project, Personal Practice, from a far, and thought it would be a great opportunity to combine my interest in process oriented work with the work of a friend.
