DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Opening Reception of the next A2AC Gallery exhibition\, We are here because you were there. \n\n\n\nThis event features DJ Manan Desai and will coincide with the opening of the Spotlight Gallery exhibition\, Talismanic: The Collected Collages of Amy Sacksteder. \n\n\n\nWe are here because you were there explores the socio-political and cultural impact of post-colonial migration on the Asian American diaspora. \n\n\n\nBorrowing its title from noted Sri Lankan Tamil activist A. Sivanandan’s (aka “Siva”) famous aphorism\, the six Asian American artists in this exhibition narrate a process of understanding how they reclaim or interpret their lived histories within this post-colonial framework. SUMMARY:Ann Arbor Park(ing) Day
DESCRIPTION:Come downtown and experience the potential of public space activated by and for people instead of cars. \n\n\n\nA standard parallel parking space is 24 feet long by 8 feet wide\, that's 192 square feet. 2 parking spaces could be a similar footprint to a studio micro apartment. Come see how we are dedicating city space to private car storage while we have spatial needs for much more critical uses such as housing. \n\n\n\nPark(ing) day is a global\, public\, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer and more equitable streets and spaces for people. A full-day exercise to show how dedicating space to house cars instead of people is against our community priorities and to reprogram these parking spots for higher\, better use. \n\n\n\nSpaces throughout downtown will be transformed into local parklets by the A2AC\, Housing and Human Services Board\, UM Urbanism Club with additional student groups\, and more! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nLEARN MORE ABOUT PARK(ING) DAY\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT DO GOOD WORK'S HOUSEPARTY FESTIVAL\n\n\n\nHouseParty is a week-long festival raising awareness on the state of housing in the contexts of the Ann Arbor-Ypsi area\, the state of Michigan\, and the nation at large. Events will run Tuesday\, September 12 through Sunday\, September 17\, around downtown Ann Arbor. \n\n\n\nThrough fun activities\, educational lectures\, enriching partnerships\, and more\, the festival considers the two cities’ future regarding zoning codes\, homelessness\, Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs)\, house affordability\, and mortgage financing. \n\n\n\n\nLEARN MORE HOUSEPARTY

SUMMARY:Clay Tile Drop-In Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Take in an evening downtown with friends and family\, and stop by the A2AC to make your own customized clay tile! \n\n\n\nEach participant will carve and stamp their own unique designs\, names\, words\, symbols\, drawings\, etc.\, into a soft clay tile. \n\n\n\nTiles will remain at the Art Center to be processed and fired in our kiln. The fired and finished tiles may be picked up from the front desk of the A2AC anytime during normal business hours between October 2-October 31. \n\n\n\nThis drop-in event will take place outside in front of the A2AC. If there is inclement weather\, the event will be moved indoors. \n\n\n\nNo registration is required. This activity is first come\, first serve\, while supplies last. No experience is necessary\, and all ages are welcome! Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
