Summer 2021 Ceramics Independent Studio – At Home Session #2
Wednesday, July 21st.. – Sunday, Aug. 29th 2021 (6 weeks)

Independent Studio – At Home provides a unique opportunity to make work at home and bring what you have created into the Ann Arbor Art Center for processing. Independent Studio – At Home is designed for those who have experience working with clay and understand ALL aspects of the ceramics process, making thru glazing. No instruction is provided. This class is not intended for beginning students. Your registration is for One(1) adult 18 years of age or older. Independent Studio – At Home does not include ANY use of Ann Arbor Art Center equipment.
You will NOT have access to:
- Pottery Wheels
- Bat Holders
- Slab Roller
- Wedging Tables
- Molds or Studio Tools
If you have not used the A2AC Ceramics studio before a MANDATORY meeting must be scheduled with the studio manager. Please email the A2AC studio manager Marc McCay email@example.com BEFORE registering.
Your Independent Studio – At Home registration fee includes: All firing costs and glazing supplies related to processing your work. Clay must be purchased separately. You can do this through our gallery shop and it is available to purchase during normal business hours. We offer both in store and curbside pick-up. Clay options include: Rovin Ceramics You BetCha! Mix, Laguna B-Mix 5 w/grog, Rovin Ceramics RO-95 Porcelain, Rovin Ceramics RO-82M Terracotta and Laguna #60 Speckled. The Ann Arbor Art Center will ONLY process pieces made from the clay purchased through the Art Center. NOTE – The Ann Arbor Art Center Ceramics Studio is a “Closed Loop System”. Outside clays and unknown materials cannot be processed at our facility. The Ceramics Studio staff reserves the right to reject pieces that could cause damage to other objects or equipment during the firing process.
First day to pick up clay – Tuesday July 13th. 2021
First day to drop off work – Wednesday July 21st.. 2021
Students will only be able to drop off work during the days and times listed below. During this session we will be having our summer camp program in the studio during the day. You will not be allowed to enter the studio for any amount of time during this programming. You are welcome to drop work off during glazing sessions even if you have not made a glaze appointment. Pieces being dropped off should be 100% bone dry and ready to be loaded into the kiln. The Ceramics Studio Staff will do their best to bisque fire your pieces as quickly as possible. General turn-around time for pieces to be ready to glaze is 7 days. Students will be asked to limit their time in the studio when dropping off.
*Please note that A2AC Clay Camp will be in the studios Monday-Friday from July 12 2021 thru Aug 27, 2021 8:30am-4:30pm. Access to the studio is strictly limited to the days and times posted here and on the doors to the studios
Drop Off: No appointment necessary

Thursdays between – 4:30pm and 6:00pm
Fridays between – 4:30pm and 7:30pm
Saturdays between – 1:00pm and 7:00pm
Sundays between – 10:00am and 4:00pm
To glaze work students will need to sign up for glazing appointments. There will be several 1.5 hour glazing sessions available each week. Students are welcome to sign up for a few different sessions over the course of the term. Students need to have a clear understanding of the glazing process.
