Hi, I am Sonimar Maldonado-Alvarado, the new Development and Communications Associate here at A2AC! I am originally from Puerto Rico, but at age 17, I decided to leave and pursue my passion for the arts in New York City. I earned my BFA in NYC, my MFA in Washington DC, and my MA at Eastern Michigan University.

Some fun facts about me are that I have a beautiful dog called “Tess” I love cooking and baking for both humans and dogs, and I am an amateur gamer!

I wanted to work within my field, in a place where I could learn all kinds of new things and grow exponentially. I am thrilled to have found this position and look forward to my time here. My favorite things about working at A2AC are the community, the arts, and the access to new knowledge. It may be simple, but these little things allow me to cherish my time spent here.

I am a working artist, although I have been on pause for a while. I am also a researcher. I study the effects that enlightenment moments within the arts have on our audiences and how these experiences could help increase arts participation. I also like to research Bomba, the oldest oral traditional dance in Puerto Rico, as a hobby. Lastly, I am an emerging curator, but my curation is solely related to my research investigation. It may change in the future.
