Summer Art Camps at the Ann Arbor Art Center:

- 10 individual weeks, from June 25 to August 31, 2018

- Two options to choose from: Creativity camp for children ages 5-12, or Clay camp for children ages 9-12

- Full day program from 9 am-4 pm

- Pre & Post Camp Care options for working parents

CREATIVITY CAMPS: AGES 5-12

 

Each day, our Creativity Camps are packed with fun and challenging activities that balance learning and play. Campers may experiment with a variety of mediums such as graphite, paint, pastels, charcoal, watercolor, sculptural materials, and more. We encourage campers to take what they’ve learned and apply it to outside-the-box projects. Past projects have included: painting cars, making giant animal balloon sculptures, creating anamorphic sidewalk chalk drawings, casting pewter keychains, and much more!

This week we will bring out the ART in EVERYTHING! Let’s think outside-the-box and explore how art can be combined with, influenced by, or complement other subjects. Math, music, science, poetry and much more will be used to create something truly amazing!

An action-packed week awaits as we learn the secrets to creating amazing comics and designing dynamic characters. How do you exaggerate a character's features to communicate emotions and frame of mind? What things do you need to consider as you illustrate a clear and exciting visual narrative?

Sometimes inspiration is just around the corner, or in this case, under the sea! Dive in as we give special attention to the patterns, textures, shapes, and colors found in sea creatures and incorporate them into our artwork.

Let’s take a close look at one of the most popular subjects in art: FOOD! Whether it’s still life drawings, pop art prints, or paintings of cakes by Wayne Thiebaud, food has been used in art around the world and through the ages.

CLAY CAMPS: AGES 9-12

 

Our Clay Camp curriculum is designed to teach the skills of pottery and to encourage the exploration of clay as a material for design, sculpture, and expression. Each week, campers learn to throw on the wheel in the mornings. In the afternoons, campers learn a variety of handbuilding techniques to create stunning sculptures, tiles, or functional items.
