DESCRIPTION:PRIDE CLAY WORKSHOP IN ANN ARBOR\n\n\n\nThe A2AC is proud to offer an afternoon of creativity and pride! Come explore\, create\, and get inspired. Drop in to this event and build community while crafting your very own cup of pride! \n\n\n\nJoin A2AC ceramics instructors and artists\, Faith Nesbitt and Sarah Ward\, to create a one-of-a-kind ceramic mug. Instructors Faith and Sarah will take participants step-by-step through the designing and sculpting process\, demonstrating fundamental hand-building skills in the process. Each student will create 1 mug\, finished in the glaze of your choice! \n\n\n\nPlease note: this project cannot be taken home on the day of\, as there is an approximate 4-week processing time we need to fire the pottery in our kilns. Participants will be notified via email when their artwork is ready for pickup. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDrop In Tuition: $20 non members\, $15 members \n\n\n\nSome things to note: The class is suitable for students of all skill levels. Working with clay is messy\, so students should come prepared for a mess. Aprons will be available for use. DESCRIPTION:This Ann Arbor artist talk and demo from ENGLAND begins with a brief introduction to the practice and the evolution of its visual language\, followed by a presentation of the latest piece\, CALDER MADE ME DO IT\, as a moment of trying something new and breaking free. \n\n\n\nThe talk explores the work of Alexander Calder and Bruno Munari. Calder’s work expands ideas of movement\, balance\, and space through mobiles\, while Munari\, working as an artist\, designer\, and educator\, approaches similar elements through play\, simplicity\, and systems. These approaches have influenced the process behind the work. \n\n\n\nPersonal context also plays a role\, shaped by becoming a parent and the introduction of visual and playful elements connected to early development in babies\, including contrast cards\, mobiles\, and mirrors. The session concludes with a live demonstration: building a small mobile using wire and paper\, based on elements from CALDER MADE ME DO IT. The process is shown step by step\, from raw materials to a balanced form. Guests will leave with their own CALDER MADE ME DO IT sculpture. \n\n\n\nPresented in association with \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE ARTIST\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEngland Likoni is a visual artist and designer based in Ann Arbor\, Michigan. Working across illustration\, animation\, and spatial installation\, his practice explores storytelling through space\, form\, and motion. He has led creative workshops for children and adults and\, in 2025\, received First Place in 2D Art at the Ann Arbor State Street District Art Fair. Through Mute\, The Mindfacturer\, and ENGLAND\, he explores different ways of thinking and making.

Drawing from her Panamanian roots and childhood in Ciudad del Saber\, LaVonne crafts hand-built ceramic forms inspired by Pre-Columbian Coclé pottery. Through intricate sgraffito carvings\, she layers imagery of Molas\, folklore\, and personal memories\, infusing each piece with the lively spirit of Panama’s culture and environment.
