About W.C. Bevan

W. C. Bevan is an American painter and muralist based in Detroit, MI. His early art interests were guided by his father, a folk musician, and his mother encouraging non-traditional ways of life. The beginning of his career was shaped by being a punk and noise musician, traveler, graffiti artist, and construction worker in Memphis, TN.

About the Mural

WC Bevan’s A2AC Mural focuses on high-contrast visual movement, imaginary extensions of architecture, uncommon rhythms rooted in free-associative practices, self-reflective scenarios rooted in an embrace of chance/change, and deep respect for folk art traditions and their regional manifestations.

Bevan utilized the process of sourcing shapes from local youth and incorporating them into his designs. The A2AC was thrilled to have partnered with Community Action Network (CAN) of Ann Arbor and students in their Bryant community to be a part of this mural. The students created shapes that Bevan turned into stencils to use in the mural. This collaboration allowed the students to have a unique part of the mural’s creative process, from conceptualization to finalization.

About CAN: Community Action Network partners with children, youth, and families from under-resourced Washtenaw County neighborhoods to create better futures for themselves and improve the communities in which they live.
