Straight Up featuring Dayna Walton
OPENING PARTY: JUNE 24
AN ART SHOW POP-UP IN A BAR.
Where: Alley Bar
When: Opening Party: Tuesday, June 24, 7 to 10pm
Straight Up is still going strong this summer! This month’s artist hails from Grand Rapids. As always, No Cover, 21+, and Drink Specials All Night Long! Live music provided by the Michigan Electronic Music Collective.
“Dayna Walton is currently completing her degree in printmaking at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. Her imagery is rooted in her background in natural science illustration and a childhood spent exploring rural West Michigan. This allows her to approach her prints analytically, using species from the natural world paired with thoughtful color and composition to represent relationships and experiences both personal and universal. Dayna sells her artwork as well as printed textiles, clothing, and goods as Solstice Handmade, supporting herself through sustainable art practice.
Dayna is drawn to printmaking for the way it yields itself to experimentation, especially in the process of copperplate etching. After the initial investment of laboring over a single copper plate, it can be printed in limitless ways and combinations, something she feels helps to paint the whole picture of a narrative or emotion. This reproducibility also keeps printmaking a more affordable and accessible art form.”
Stop in on the opening night, Monday, June 24th, 7-10pm and meet the artist, enjoy Alley Bar’s drink specials and groove to music provided by live DJs from Michigan Electronic Music Collective (MEMCO). We’ll see you there!
