About the Exhibition

The Living Room features nine artists whose work offers comfort: Habits, objects, human connections, and imagery that helps to pause the hustle of life. We invite you to slow down, participate in one of the community projects around the gallery, sit and enjoy a few books, and gift yourself a momentary break.

Curatorial Statement

The Living Room:

Hygge, koselig, mysigt or mys, cosagach, ikigai, and many more words from languages around the world encapsulate the feeling of comfort, the act of coziness, calm and the present tense of being with close friends on a dark winter night and warding off the blues.

As we approach these winter months in Michigan, the A2AC Gallery transforms into a space to be calm in downtown: Take a deep breath and pause your holiday shopping or that final work assignment before 2023 comes to a close. The gallery’s nine artists offer comfort: Habits, objects, human connections, and imagery that help to pause the hustle.

The A2AC invites you to slow down, participate in one of the community projects around the gallery, sit and enjoy a few books, and gift yourself a momentary break.
