The Wonderful World of Millie Danielson: A Retrospective

Millie Danielson

A lifelong student of the arts, Millie Danielson was trained as an Arts and Crafts teacher at Michigan Normal College (EMU). Danielson explored many art forms until she enrolled in a weaving course in Serape at the University of Mexico. This course incorporated many of the techniques that spoke to her – design, color, texture, purpose. When a loom was given to Danielson, she felt obliged to honor the gift by learning all she could about weaving and her fiber art career was born.

Such pursuits have resulted in a body of work which has included many tapestry commissions, fashion shows, acceptances into fiber exhibitions, and exploration into repurposing materials foreign to the weaving/fiber tradition. Andre Gide said: "Out of yourself, create." This was the motto this centurion artist lived by to the fullest. As a long time active member of the Michigan League of Handweavers and the Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild, Millie was an inspiration and mentor to the next generation of fiber artists.
