2024 Creativity Camps

Creativity Camp | Ages 5-12

Each day, our Creativity Camps are packed with fun and challenging activities that balance learning and play. Campers may experiment with a variety of mediums such as graphite, paint, pastels, charcoal, watercolor, sculptural materials, and more.   Although we provide a lot of traditional art instruction, we also encourage campers to take what they’ve learned and apply it to outside-the-box projects.

  • Children are divided into the following groups: Ages 5-7, Ages 8-9, Ages 10-12.
  • Drop-off Time | 8:45am – 9:00am
  • Pick-up Time | 4:00pm – 4:15pm

Tuition: $425/week

Please note:

We do not make exceptions to the minimum age required to be in a given group.

Week 3 is a 3-Day camp due to the 4th of July Holiday | Tuition for this camp is $255.

Creativity Camp sessions do not use clay that is fired in a kiln and they do not throw on the pottery wheel.

SPRING BREAK: CREATIVITY CAMP

MARCH 25 – MARCH 29

Buckle your seatbelts and prepare for an explosion of color! Learn new ways to use color in the form of paint, pastels, and more to create spectacular works of art. We can’t wait to see the studio walls covered with exciting, eye-catching artwork this week as campers:

  • Learn all about color mixing, complementary colors, and color gradients!
  • Create a vibrant, rainbow-inspired work of art.
  • Experiment with printmaking techniques using bold, bright colors.
  • Create a work of art inspired by brightly colored Pop Art images.


WEEK 1: CREATIVITY CAMP

JUNE 17 – JUNE 21

Let loose your imagination and master the art of monster-making and fantastical creature design! Learn how to create exciting and believable creatures using a variety of different mediums. Campers will:

  • Design a frightening or friendly monster mask.
  • Work together to make a zoo of rare and unique magical creatures.
  • Make a monster that pops out of something to surprise the viewer.

WEEK 2: CREATIVITY CAMP

JUNE 24 – JUNE 28

Do you love to draw and build? The sky is the limit this week as we put our creativity to the test and learn how to draw, design, and fabricate architectural forms. Campers will:

  • Sketch a floor plan of a dream home and make a 3-D model of an architectural structure.
  • Collaborate to make a giant architectural wonder.
  • Learn one-point perspective and draw a building from a bug’s-eye view.


Week 2B- Mighty Miniatures Summer Art Camp Ann Arbor Art Center

WEEK 3: CREATIVITY CAMP

JULY 1 – JULY 3

Imagine what the world would look like if you were the size of an ant. In this special 3-Day camp, we’ll put in a big effort to make a series of tiny wonders and microscopic masterpieces! Campers will learn all about scale and proportion as they:

  • Construct a miniature version of a vacation destination. It could be anything – a tiny amusement park, zoo, famous landmark, city, jungle, art museum, and more!
  • Sculpt miniature objects out of polymer clay to use as wearable art.

*Due to the holiday, this is a 3-day camp week. There will be no camp on Thursday or Friday.


WEEK 4: CREATIVITY CAMP

JULY 8 – JULY 12

We’re positively glowing with excitement as we experiment with light! Learn how to use and manipulate natural light in artwork, create the illusion of light in drawings, add LED lights to a project, and more! Campers will:

  • Create artwork that will glow in the dark.
  • Use LED lights in a drawing or sculpture.
  • Learn how to shade an object and how to draw an object to appear as if it is glowing or lit up.


WEEK 5: CREATIVITY CAMP

JULY 15 – JULY 19

Let’s take a close look at one of the most popular subjects in art: FOOD! Whether it’s still life drawings, pop art prints, or paintings of cakes by Wayne Thiebaud, food has been used in art around the world and through the ages. Campers will really dig in this week as they:

  • Learn how to use color and value to make a drawing or painting of food appear realistic.
  • Make a larger-than-life sculpture of a favorite food.
  • Design a unique and silly character that is inspired by an item of food.


WEEK 6: CREATIVITY CAMP

JULY 22 – JULY 26

So many fish in the sea and so much art to be made! Climb aboard as we set sail and explore the depths of our creativity. Discover the amazing creatures that lurk just below the surface. Campers will:

  • Draw and sculpt a series of exotic fish, crustaceans, sea monsters, and more.
  • Illustrate a detailed map of a secret island.
  • Collaborate to create an exciting, dynamic coral reef scene.


WEEK 7: CREATIVITY CAMP

July 29 – August 2

An action-packed week awaits as we learn the secrets to creating amazing comics and designing dynamic characters. All will be revealed as campers:

  • Make an exciting mini comic book.
  • Learn the basics of character design and how to exaggerate a character’s features and body language to communicate emotions and frame of mind.
  • Draw a superhero alter-ego and fabricate a superhero costume item or accessory.


WEEK 8: CREATIVITY CAMP

August 5 – August 9

This week is sure to be EPIC as we embark on a quest to explore the far reaches of medieval art and its many fabulous and ornate treasures. Campers can only imagine what awaits on this fantastic adventure as they:

  • Make a special amulet or medieval garb.
  • Fabricate an elaborate, majestic castle.
  • Draw or sculpt a mighty dragon or gargoyle.

WEEK 9: CREATIVITY CAMP

August 12 – August 16

Are you an animal lover? Take a walk on the wild side as we explore how to incorporate animals, bugs, reptiles, birds, and aquatic life into our artwork. Campers will have a roarin’ good time as they:

  • Make artwork that is inspired by patterns, colors, and shapes found in creatures around the world.
  • Work together to create a habitat and make individual animals to go in it.
  • Use polymer clay and press molds to make animals or insects.


Summer Art Camp 2016 Back-to-the-Future

WEEK 10: CREATIVITY CAMP

August 19 – August 23

Buckle your seatbelts as we blast off into the year 3024! Things may look a little different 1000 years from now! What new trends in design and technology will we find? We will boldly go where no campers have gone before as we:

  • Build a robot pet that you don’t have to remember to feed or clean up after.
  • Illustrate a series of postcards from the future that depict places they want to someday visit or things they want to someday do, like learning how to surf in Hawaii or ride in a rocket ship to Mars!
  • Make a futuristic wearable item. Will people be wearing space suits or new kinds of clothes like you might see in Star Wars?
