She has been a Resident at the Vermont Studio Center andTeton Artlab, a Fellow at Salem Art Works and Franconia Sculpture Park, and spent several months making art as she traveled alone across the United States on a Nomadic Artist Residency. Before moving to Michigan, Sophie lived in Vermont where she taught snowboarding and had her own pottery business. She loves primary colors, roast chicken, and is learning to play the ukelele.

“My work explores how meaning becomes embedded in objects and places. I am particularly interested in relationships between physical space, emotional experience, memory and the body. My sculptures borrow from the language of architecture and design, but exist between definitions. Things are always more than one thing. By merging the strange and the familiar, we can unzip function and begin to flirt in the subjective realm of emotional narrative.”
